The first page can be used in small groups or partners. Read the story and answer the questions. Students circle the clues and discuss how they made their inferences. There are two short stories. I would do the first one together and let students in my small group try the 2nd one on their own. Then we would discuss.
This resource also includes inference matching cards which can be used in pairs, small groups, or individually. The cards are meant to be cut apart. Students match a short part of a story to the inference that you can make from it. This could also be used in a center.
The third page has a worksheet on making inferences which can be used as a formative or summative assessment, as homework, or just as practice.
This resource would be best for ending first graders or beginning second graders in my opinion. It could be used for remediation with third graders as well.
