This unit includes 20+ pages of reusable graphic organizers and multiple lessons utilizing quality children's books that will help your students understand the many ways to make inferences while reading.
The unit begins with an anchor lesson teaching the concept of making inferences. The anchor lesson uses the story Two Bad Ants by Chris VanAllsburg. This story beautifully lends itself to making inferences with the help of the author's brilliant ability to use words and illustrations to lead readers on a inferencing journey.
The unit also includes various graphic organizers to help readers infer as you/they read other children's picture books. The unit can be tailored to meet your students' ability levels with inferencing.
The idea behind this unit is to scaffold your young readers in the process of making inferencing while reading independently. The goal is to gradually move away from structured graphic organizers and lesson plans and bridge students into a full understanding of the process.
This unit is one of many to get you started on your way to helping your students become independent readers/comprehenders.
