This packet contains passages and station activities that require students to use evidence from a text to answer questions and make inferences. Included in this packet are 4 passages with questions that require students to infer using the details from the text. The passages ask questions about characters, vocabulary, and/or theme. There is an additional activity that goes along with each passage that focuses on RL Standard 2, 3 or 4 and is generic enough that it can be reproduced as an independent activity for students to use with a different text once it has been modeled and used in small group instruction. Station directions are listed with two options; independent work or partner work. A blank set of cards are included for students to make their own sets of events or characters with matching supporting quotes or text. This is great as an extension activity and differentiates the learning. Most of all, this is a fun and engaging way to teach CC ELA Standards 2, 3 and 4 while requiring students to use inferences and evidence from the text. Most of these activities are generalized enough that they can be used repeatedly throughout the year. All you need to do is change out the literature text you assign students to read and you have an ongoing station that reinforces Standard RL 1, 2, 3, and 4.
