Product Description
With the Common Core requiring students to use evidence to support inferences they make while reading texts, I've created 5-7 activities (depending on how you use them) where the students have to do just that!

Included in this document are:

Infer and Prove Organizer 1...............................................3
Infer and Prove Organizer 2...............................................4
Infer and Prove Organizer 3...............................................5
Describe That Character! (Passage)..................................7
Luke's Adventure (Passage)..............................................9
The Walk (Passage)..........................................................11
Inference and Evidence Match..........................................17

With the Infer and Prove organizers, the activity can automatically be differentiated by having students use their independent reading books. However, you can also use the organizers for any specific text of your choice. There are three organizers to choose from. You can use all three to assess the skill using three different formats, or you can choose the organizer you think is best for your students!

Describe That Character, Luke's Adventure, and The Walk are three passages (2 short, 1 longer) where students have to apply their inferring skills to describe a character, predict an outcome, and to answer questions about the text.

Finally, for the Inference and Evidence Match, the students play a matching game, where they pair up inferences that can be made by specific wording (evidence) in a text. This activity helps students see how wording in the text supports their ability to make inferences.

The learning goal is also included on each activity.

All of the activities can be used as tools to help students deepen their understanding of making inferences, as well as tools for assessment.
