Product Description
Problem
1. How are metric units of measurement used in the laboratory?
2. Bonus: How does one convert metric units to another metric unit?

Introduction
The metric system is an international decimalized system of measurement. France was first to adopt it in 1799 and it is now the basic system of measurement used in almost every country in the world. The United States is the only industrialized country unable (unwilling) to adopt the International System of Units as its predominant system of measurement. For everyday measuring, we still use English units, such as Fahrenheit, pounds, inches, and gallons. In the metric system, units include Celsius, grams, meters, and liters. From its beginning, the main feature of the metric system was the standard set of inter-related base units and a standard set of prefixes in powers of ten. In the SI system, it is easy to change one unit to another because of the base ten unit. While the system was first developed for commercial use, its coherent set of units made it particularly suitable for scientific and engineering purposes.

In this investigation, you will practice taking measurements. You will record your measurements in units according to the metric system for measuring length, liquid volume, and mass.
