It is important to relate to reluctant learners and find ways to teach them at their level, engaging their interests.
This lesson teaches students about symbolism through both poetry and song. I provide lyrics for the two songs I used with the lesson, but audio, if desired, will have to be obtained separately. An added bonus (I hope) to using popular songs is that students will hear them outside of the classroom and be reminded of what they learned.
This lesson plan is also part of a price-saving bundle which includes a two-day intro to poetic terms, as well as 3 days of fun poetry lessons:
Fun with Poetry Bundle: Intro to terms and 5 days of fun lesson plans
A note about my lessons:
Each lesson has a checkbox for the teacher to circle which standards they are using in the lesson. While they list ESL standards and were used in a classroom with ESL students, these lessons are appropriate for students of all abilities. They were used in diverse classrooms with students who ranged from speaking no English, to being fluent native speakers.
