Set 2 Cards: “Same but different context” cards were developed to help children generalize skills with similar contexts as set 1. Set 2 can be used alone or in conjunction with my original set.
DATA SHEET included
These tasks cards were developed so that children can make predictions based on experiences they have either had themselves or have seen others doing. I realize that not all children have the same experiences, so I did my best to come up with scenarios that are “common” or could be easily generalized. Prediction scenarios focus around home, school and community themes. The pink cards provide children with a choice of three possible answers. An answer key is provided with the most logical response. The brown cards provide the same scenarios as the pink cards, however they are open ended and do not provide choices. An answer key is not provided for the brown cards, as any logical prediction would be an acceptable answer.
EXPAND: These cards were also designed to expand conversation. Since most of the tasks cards are based around common scenarios, you can easily engage the students in conversation by tapping into their prior knowledge and engaging in meaningful conversations.
Using Prior Knowledge and knowing how to make predictions are key ingredients to reading comprehension.
