Silent-Sustained Reading can be scary! Research shows that it's important for students to build reading stamina and practice using reading strategies, but justifying sitting in silence and reading can be difficult to sell to an administrator or may make you feel like you're not "instructing!"
In this packet, I've included research that supports that silent sustained reading is valuable. It includes guided reading sheets, summary sheets, tips for use, and a rubric for grading SSR. It's based on Common Core Anchor Standards, which can be found here: http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/CCRA/R/
