I love using visuals when I work with children who have phonological disorders. Visuals provide a simple, concrete image to teach a pretty abstract concept!
When I have children who reduce consonant clusters for s-blends I use the visual of making spaghetti. I model that we have to make the long /s/ sound as I move my finger across the noodle, and pop the second part of the word when we hit the meatball! Then, we put the two sounds together to make the spaghetti (e.g., “ssss” + “pot” = “spot”).
Included you will find:
-A large visual mat for clinicians
-Miniature versions of the visual mat for students
-102 s-blend flashcards: 18 /st/, 18 /sp/, 12 /sm/, 12 /sn/, 18 /sk/, 12 /sw/ and 12 /sl/ photos!
