A full year of weekly activities that engage children in the study of words. It builds in complexity as the year goes on and meets Common Core standards for reading foundational skills.
Students cut apart letters or chunks of words and put them together in various ways to create meaningful words. When finished, they practice reading the words they’ve created. Each week targets a specific spelling pattern, giving the students a chance to develop an understanding of how these phonetic elements work together. Students enjoy the hands-on activity and develop reading fluency at the same time!
The lessons follow the sequence of phonics instruction for second grade. You can use them weekly throughout the year, or select the ones that are just right for your students at the time you need them.
