This is a SmartBoard lesson in which students will make CVC words that have short /a/, /e/, and /u/ sounds. The teacher calls out a word. Students make the word at their desks (there is a file attached to the lesson that contains letter strips for the students). A volunteer makes the word at the Smartboard. Each screen contains the letters within the lesson, spaces in which to place the letters, and a pull tab with the word used in context along with a visual representation of the word.
The first screen has the directions necessary for teaching the lesson. The second screen shows the letters in the lesson and has pictures representing their sounds. Screens 3-20 are interactive screens in which students spell the word and see it in context along with a picture. On screen 20, students are challenged to spell the "magic word" (the word that can be made by using all their letters). Screen 21 has all the words listed so that the students can sort them into groups by spelling pattern. The last screen contains four pictures of words that follow the same spelling patterns in the lesson. Students can be challenged to spell the new words by using the patterns they have just learned. Clicking on the pictures in the last screen will reveal the correctly spelled word.
