This sheet asks students to first, create a budget in chart form, using a series of prompts. (Students must determine if each item is an earning or an expense, as well as determine their updated balance, after each prompt.)
Then students must answer a series of comprehension questions, using the budget they've created. (The questions primarily ask about how long it will take them to save for a car initially, and after they decide to spend less and save more each month.)
Sentence stems are provided for each comprehension question, in order to assist lower-level writers.
I allow students to use calculators, but you could require them to do mental math, as the calculations (especially to make the chart) are not extensive.
This could also be assigned as a homework assignment (or do the front page in class to make sure they're on the right track, and the back page for homework).
