Get students actively reading and utilizing comprehension strategies while integrating writing! My Thinking Boxes© make it easy. Just print and teach! This product uses the book 'Malala's Magic Pencil' by Malala Yousafzai which is an inspiring, important read. As you read aloud, you stop along the way asking students to apply different comprehension strategies in the boxes. Each box gives you the opportunity for some quick collaborative conversation to building thinking skills. Students are actively thinking, writing, sharing and building knowledge together the whole time! This is a research-based, brain friendly strategy I've written about in many of my professional books.
Using Thinking Boxes© with 'Malala's Magic Pencil' enables you to address many important social issues while working on important skills/strategies and building divergent thinking!
The product includes directions (with the questions to ask and the background to give students for each Thinking Box (I give you language to briefly explain each comprehension strategy and why it is important), the Thinking Boxes© printable for Malala's Magic Pencil (color & black and white), a completed student sample, Tips for using Thinking Boxes© to best effect, how Thinking Boxes© can be used to meet ELA standards, ideas for extending the work with this amazing true story including links to websites, and a blank Thinking Boxes© template.
