Grab a copy of Malala's book, "Malala's Magic Pencil" and read it with your students. Malala talks about what she would do if she were given a magic pencil. The book is definitely geared toward elementary youngsters, but I read it with my sixth graders and had them make connections to the information we knew. We also tried to look at the deeper meaning of the book by analyzing the pictures of the book and the examples of symbolism.
Then, have your students complete a writing assignment on what they would do with their magic pencil. You will be amazed on what they come up with. These were only *some* of the examples my students came up with:
If I had a magic pencil, I would...
-draw food for the hungry
-draw houses for the homeless
In this product, there is an assignment description, outline organizer, and a space for the final writing.
