I try hard to create materials that are meaningful and purposeful. I think it is VERY important for everything to "look like reading and writing". I am not big on giving the students worksheets just to keep them busy. Every activity includes students reading and/or writing and applying those weekly skills.

Vocabulary activity where students pick a word, write a sentence, and then draw.
Cover, Copy and Compare spelling intervention. Fold the sheet along center line. Student reads the word then writes it, and compares his/her spelling. If it is correct, move to next word. If not, try again.
