READY TO USE LESSON PLAN IN POWERPOINT FORMAT-- SIMPLY PROJECT IT FOR STUDENTS IN CLASS
This lesson challenges students to closely read Billy Collins' poem "Man Listening to Disc" and analyze the central ideas within the poem. This poem is a CCLS recommended text, and the questions are aligned to Common Core Standards. I have found this lesson to be very effective, as I've used it many times in my 11th grade classroom.
The lesson, which can be used as is by teachers or modified to fit their purposes, consists of an Aim, Do Now, Preview of Pertinent Vocabulary, a Reading Period, a Work Period consisting of rigorous, higher-order, text-dependent questions, an Exit Question, and a Homework assignment-- all of which are aligned to the lesson's Aim.
My students, in particular, find the Do Now particularly engaging, as it involves the subject of music. They appreciate being invited to share their personal experiences about music and the effects that it has on them.
Due to copyright laws, the text itself is not included.
