*Man vs. Wild: Bear Eats (Season 2, Episode 13)
As of May 2016 every episode of Man vs. Wild is available for purchase via YouTube for $1.99 each. This makes it ideal and easy access for emergency substitute plans.
A 20-question worksheet to accompany this video where host Bear Grylls showcases a "greatest hits" selection of a variety of things he has eaten over the course of his adventures. This is an excellent video for science class. Students really love this one because it's gross.
EPISODE SUMMARY: A “Greatest Eats” collection of scenes from Season 1 and Season 2. Bear shows clips of numerous plants and animals he has eaten: dead zebra, piranha, snakes, lizards, beetles, goat testicles, etc. Then he acknowledges ways to know which foods in the wild are unsafe to eat. This is a great episode that also works well if you are teaching units on the human body (digestive system) or foods & customs around the world.
Questions on the assignment go in order and will help students focus on key science topics including: finding food, identifying things that are safe to eat, proteins found in food, and what items need to be cooked or can be eaten raw. Dehydration/hydration and places to find waters are also covered.
The worksheet is given as a MS-Word document which will allow easy modifying to fit your class.
*The video needed for viewing can be purchased through a variety of sellers both as physical media or through streaming viewing (including Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, and Discovery).
