Mandalas are a circular figure representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism. The creation of mandalas are often used as a relaxation technique.
This template (and others like it in my book) can be used in the classroom for many activites:
1) Use the mandalas as an art lesson, fill in with colour from textas, pencils, coloured rice, dry lentils, scrunched crepe paper, nature materials, other collage pieces etc. Use contrasting colours, shades or tones for added effect.
2) As a lesson in Symmerty. Fold the mandala in half along a line of symmerty and ask students to fill in the other half.
3) As a math lesson in shapes. Identify the shapes and ask students to count them and identify patterns.
