This activity requires your students to recreate the town of Two Mills in 3Dby using posterboard on their own. They will do this using details left by the author throughout the book and all of the guided pages in this activity.
This is a wonderful project that reinforces a variety of Common Core standards all at once. A Common Core checklist with “unpacked” I can statements is attached in this document.
Your students will create a visual map of the town by keeping track of the setting details as they read on the planning pages in this document. This skill can reinforce comprehension by explaining that good readers always have a mental image in their mind while reading.
On the final map students will leave direct quotes as support, a billboard which contains two character traits with Maniac's picture on it, explain to the class four specific events that happened in the story because of the settings location, and the students will have to explain to the class one lesson or theme someone might learn if they visited the town of Two Mills.
This document contains an overview page, a requirement page, a directions page, student planning pages, a state formatted question related to setting influence on plot, a direction page to present their final product which includes finding one theme in the book, a grading rubric for the teacher, and a Common Core I can checklist for standards met.
My students loved creating their own 3D versions of the town, and I am confident that your students will as well.
