I used this vocabulary template with my sixth grade English learners as a novel study they were reading in their classroom. This three-page document targets words from the story they may find troublesome.
Students were instructed to use a dictionary to define the words as they were used in context in the story; a page reference was provided for their assistance. Students were able to work individually, in pairs, or in cooperative groups to define the words prior to reading depending on the day. After the words were defined, we discussed the definitions and used the SmartBoard to ensure students had down the correct meanings for the words.
