Students will examine the effects of the Civil War, Reconstruction, and of the industrial revolution, including, demographic shifts, western movement, and the emergence in the late nineteenth century of the United States as a world power. They will also analyze the impact of the western movement on American Indians, farmers, transportation, and the economy. Students will, additionally, analyze the role religion played in the founding of America, its lasting moral, social, and political impacts, and issues regarding religious liberty.
