Analyzing written primary sources can be a challenge!
This handout is meant to bring a greater understanding of the meaning of Manifest Destiny. Using excerpts from John O'Sullivan's, "The Great Nation of Futurity," 1839, students will try to glean how Americans felt about progress in the mid 19th century.
In addition to O'Sullivan's text, student will answer guiding questions.
I have also included an answer sheet to assist you with the lesson.
I use this after my kids have had the chance to study the painting "American Progress". Please see my store for a lesson analyzing that work of art.
