PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a lesson plan with graphic organizers included. The topic is Spanish Exploration. It uses a 3 minute clip from Mankind the Story of All of Us regarding the Spanish 'discovery' of silver in Latin America. The focus of the lesson is to answer the following question " How did the discovery of silver in Latin America change the world?"
From the video, students see the positives - expansion of world trade and the negative - destruction of Native American culture.
This lesson applies the Common Core supported method of using close reads, but applies it to a video so it incorporates 21st century literacies and technology. It ends with a written discussion in which students use evidence from the video to support their argument on the positive or negative impact of Spanish exploration.
