Title of Lesson: Manners Matter Even to Rude Cakes!
Rude Cakes is about a a 'not-so-sweet cake who never says please or thank you or listens to its parents' until he meets a Cyclops.
Growing and maturing SOCIALLY and EMOTIONALLY means learning and practicing socially acceptable behaviors. Manners-Show respect, respect others privacy, ask permission, Please &Thank you.
Lesson: Begin by posting both the 'Manners, Please!' & 'How Rude!' signs on opposite sides of room or on board. Pass out only the rude words and read the first half of the story. Review each word for the student as you hand it to them. Once students hear their word, they are to hold up their word/action and come forward to post it. Stop and discuss the meaning of the word and what actions make it rude or mannerly. Now pass out the manner words, review words as necessary and begin reading again. As soon as the student hears their word, they are to stand and come forward. Allow students to demonstrate how to be mannerly and post on wall/board.
Follow with the minion wraps and a color sheet for kindergarten and first grade. Optional Activity for 2-4 is the Tic Tac Toes game using chairs. Divide class in half, set out nine chairs to play and use the manner questions in this packet to play.
4th -6th grades: II did the same thing as above but spent more time in class discussion and then had students to complete the Cyclops eye fold.
