Learning scientific vocabulary is essential for any student studying science. Many years ago I noticed that students were sometimes copying down incorrect or incomplete definitions of vocabulary words. I also ran into problems when students weren’t allowed to take the science books home. To make sure that my students understood the key terminology, I created what I call “Glossary Pages.” A Glossary Page has the words and definitions already on them, and students are asked to copy them exactly as they appear on the lines below. No more guessing or making up their own (wrong) definitions!
My middle school science students save all of their Glossary Pages in their science binders, and they make an excellent resource when studying for end-of-year exams.
This set includes a Glossary Page, matching Vocab Quiz with answer key, and Word Wall Words. I printed my words on white cardstock and laminated them.
The words in this set are designed to go along with a Technology/Engineering unit on Manufacturing Technologies. More specifically: Manufacturing is the process of converting raw materials (primary process) into physical goods (secondary process), involving multiple industrial processes (e.g., assembly, multiple stages of production, quality control). Each file is a .docx and you are welcome to modify them to fit the needs of your students!
The words are: research and development, interchangeable parts, custom production, mass production, quality control, manufacturing, assembly line, distribution, automation, production, and marketing.
