Product Description
This viewing guide is designed to augment classroom viewing of Episode 3 of Henry Louis Gates's "Many Rivers to Cross." This episode illustrates black history from 1861-1877, focusing on the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. I designed this viewing guide to help students focus on video, not distract them. Therefore, students only look for five anecdotes that illustrate main themes in the African-American experience during this time. This would be great for a sub plan or a day before a break when you expect many students to be absent.
