Product Description

With this unit, you have 6+ activities to help you kick-start the new year (one of the hardest times of the year as far as lesson planning). Give yourself a buffer for a few weeks with these NO PREP activities until you get your bearings! The 6 main activities (with sub-mini activities )include:

1. Articulations Trials: Print 40 trials page and have students take turns rolling dice to see how many words to say/pictures to color. You can also use the words on page 4. The first to 40 wins! Target: articulation, turn taking, counting, individual goals

2. Articulation Words: Page 4 includes lists of words related to the New Year covering all different sounds. Have articulation students repeat these words and have language students see if they can tell you the association between the word and New Year. Target: artic, phonology, association, describing

3. Sequencing My Break: Print page 5 and have students either verbalize, write sentences, or draw pictures of their break. Target: describing, sentences, sequencing

4. Categorizing and Comparison: On page 6, have students point to the picture that does not belong. Then using the sentence stems, have students tell you why the object does not belong and what the category is. On page 7, have students pick a picture and using the sentence stems explain why the items are similar and how they are different. Target: categorizing, describing, comparing/contrasting, complete sentences, language

5. Sorting/Word of the Year: Print pages 8-11 and have students cut out the word cards on page 7 OR just point to save time. The students can pick 1 word they would like to work on this year, or 1 word from each picture category and tell you why they want to work on this. They could also make up their own. After they pick a word(s), they can either place or sort the cards by color and category. Older students can match the goal word to it’s definition on page 8 and write the word at the top. Target: categorizing, describing, labeling

6. Story & WH Questions: Print the story on page 12. Have older students highlight sounds in the story they are working on, then have them read it or read it yourself. Then have students answer the WH questions either by writing their answers on page 13 or playing a game of blackout Bingo. Students can then cut out the 4 sequence pictures and paste them on #s 1-4 then retell you the story. Then cut the 6 story elements sorting them by character, setting, problem, and resolution. Target: WH questions, artic, details, retell, sequencing, story elements
