Skill and drill no longer works! Assess your students' understanding of the main features of a map in an authentic and real-world driven way. This performance assessment is to be used following a unit on map skills. In this engaging problem-based learning experience, students receive a letter from a "director" at the Community Travel Agency. In kid-friendly terms, they are asked to serve in the capacity of contracted travel agent. Provided with client profiles and a United States atlas, they are to match people to vacation destinations based on their requests, wants, and needs. In order to create satisfied customers and pinpoint fitting travel locales, students must utilize their understandings of the features of a map, such as scale, compass rose, legend, etc.
