Listening is a vital component to language learning, but can be a very difficult skill to practice and assess in isolation.
In this activity, students are given a community map of a boy, Dexter. The map, however, is not complete. In order to finish the map, students have to listen to, and follow the prompts. A script is provided to be read orally by the instructor. The instructions involve the use of several map skills including: marking directions on a compass, locating parts of a map using their directional relation to others, and navigating a map key.
This makes a great listening assessment!
This product can also easily be used as a reading activity/assessment. Instead of administering the directions orally, provide a hard copy of the written directions to each student.
This product includes:
• A community map (for each student)
• Script of prompts to be read aloud
• Answer key
• Grading rubric
• Activity directions
