What educators are saying

This was so nicely laid out for students for a project. The best part was it was easy for parents to follow to help their child. Very engaging
This resource was perfect for my students to apply their map skills! I loved the different versions of maps. They had so much fun making their own town.

Description

Students love designing their own towns, cities, parks, and islands! After completing several practice worksheets, students will have the skills to create their own maps. This Make Your Own Map Project provides students with a hands-on way to interact with map skills.

You receive:

  • 4 map worksheets - becoming progressively more difficult
  • 2 compass rose pages for students to complete (choose the level you need)
  • 6 different "Make Your Own Map" project pages to choose from
  • 3 differentiated map keys
  • A blank "Make Your Own Map" page for maximum student creativity
  • Answer keys for the map worksheets

Students will interact with the following:

  • map symbols
  • map key
  • cardinal directions
  • intermediate directions
  • compass rose

The Make Your Own Map Project includes a choice of three map keys (partially filled-in symbols with cardinal directions, partially filled-in symbols with intermediate directions, and one with blank map symbols with intermediate directions) and different maps to choose from. Students can get as creative as they want. Map Skills are an essential part of social studies and life skills.
