Fun small group practice of Map Skills Vocabulary without teacher supervision required.

Words in this Go Fish Deck:

Go Fish is a wonderful game for student practice in the classroom. Not only are the rules and directions for game play very basic, but it allows for repetition in the pronunciation, spelling, and listening to important words. This repeated practice is great for our auditory learners. Go Fish provides the students with the opportunity to develop their ownership of their learning.

How we play in our classroom:
We place all the cards word-side down and mix them up. Pile the cards together with all of them facing the same direction. Decide who will pass out the cards and in clock-wise order give each student four cards to start. The next birthday will go first and play will continue in clock-wise order.
When taking their turn the student calls the name of the student they’re asking so that other student is paying attention and ready to look at their cards.
Students are taught to follow this script so students hear the word three times...
Do you have ____?
Spell the word aloud for them.
Repeat the word one more time
IF they do not have the card, they tell them to Go Fish and it is the next person’s turn. IF they do have the word card, they must hand over all copies of that word to their classmate who asked for the card. That student gets to go again until they are told to Go Fish in the Pond.
Students must have four of a kind to have a match. They lay their match word up so everyone knows that match is out of play. The game is over when all of the Pond is gone, and all the matches are made. The student with the most matches wins.

There are 14 words that will be practiced in this pack with each word being printed 2 times for a total of 48 playing cards in this Go Fish deck.

Possible uses for this product: Word Work, inside recess, small group work with a volunteer, Guided Reading, and family nights at school.
