I did this activity with my 10th grade ESL class, and they LOVED it! They got so into the competition aspect.
First, I told the students that a leprechaun had hidden some gold in the city of Dublin, and the first group to correctly answer the questions about Dublin would win the gold.
I then split the students into groups of four. Each student got a map of Dublin, and each group got a paper with questions about the map related to where things are located and how to get from point A to point B for some important Dublin landmarks. Students had to work with their groups to answer the questions. The first group to finish got some "leprechaun gold" (chocolate coins).
Included here are the question sheet with the answer key as well as the map used for the activity. The text on the map is a bit small and hard to read, so I also projected the map on the board for students to consult. The link to a large version of the map is also included in the map document.
