This rubric can be used to assess an end of unit activity dealing with maps.
After learning about the parts and components of a map, challenge students to create a map of their choice - their route to school from home, the playground, the classroom, their neighborhood - whatever they choose!
Require them to incorporate all components learned that a map needs.
Allow them to present their map and switch with partners to see if friends are able to navigate.
