Mapping the Mockingbird
(To Kill A Mockingbird Database Lesson and Project)
SPECIAL TPT PRICING
Over a period of twenty years I've read To Kill A Mockingbird with my classes and each year it became clearer that the author was not only giving us a great story, but also plotting out the territory in which the story takes place, in great detail.
The Mapping the Mockingbird project offers a lesson plan to approach the novel from a setting point of view. In the end the students will have created a detailed database of all the major setting points in the story and a detailed map of Maycomb. In doing so, the characters and events will become very real to your readers.
The database program was original created for use with older Microsoft DOS computers, but has been upgraded for Windows. It's easy to use and helps coordinate all of the information the students will collect. (The DOS version is also included on the disk for teachers still using those machines)
I have found that the project works best when two or three students are assigned to a database, completing one map project between them, however teachers can use their own discretion as to what is best.
This package contains the following: (Packaged on CD ready for installation)
Mapping the Mockingbird Database Program for Windows PC
Lesson Plan for the Project
To Kill A Mockingbird Extras
(A suggested sample map is also included with the program. This is not definitive, however it follows the major setting elements presented in the story.)
