This is a perfect story when teaching Ancient Egypt.. It is a story of Mara, a proud and beautiful slave girl who yearns for freedom. In order to gain it, she finds herself playing the dangerous role of double spy for two arch enemies - each of whom supports a contender for the throne of Egypt. This books is well-written and thrilling. I would highly recommend this book.

This unit provides many opportunities for the students to be creative: they will write personal narratives, diary entries, conversations, a news article, poetry, and a love song.
