This unit is for John Lewis' graphic novel MARCH (Book Two). It breaks the novel down into four sections. Each section includes a vocabulary activity, comprehension questions, and writing activity based on a related article/topic. There is also a mini-research project about a person from the Civil Rights movement.
The objective summaries are scaffolded. The students get templates on writing an objective summary paragraph, an SCR contrasting character's point of view, and how to take notes when doing research.
There is also a jigsaw activity for Martin Luther King's, "I Have a Dream" speech. It includes the entire speech broken up into five sections with questions for each section. This is a separate product in my store, but is included free with this unit!
I used this in Google Classroom, so there are not extra spaces for student to write answers (they just typed right into the Google Doc). If you choose to use it as pencil/paper, you can simply add in spaces OR have students answer on their own papers and make a class set. Either way, it is easy to use and takes very little prep!
