Description
Crack the Codes allow students to feel success in all academic areas, while working hard to collaborate, persevere, and problem solve with their peers. Crack the Codes take students on a "scavenger hunt" style game where six clue cards will need to be located and solved. This resource includes options for grades 1st through 5th where you can pick and choose whichever clue cards best suit your students! Here is a closer look at what types of challenges are included in this Crack the Code!
*This Crack the Code does involve counting money and the money is American money. I am hoping to add a version with Canadian currency soon!
Grades 4-5
In this breakout, students will be reading passages, solving math problems (1 digit by 1 digit multiplication option as well as a 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication option), using a code breaker to decode secret messages, and participating in a stem activity!
Grade 2-3
In this breakout, students will be reading passages, solving math problems (2 digit plus 2 digit addition as well as 2 digit plus 1 digit), using a code breaker to decode secret messages, and participating in a stem activity!
Grade 1
In this breakout, students will be reading passages, solving math problems (1 digit plus 1 digit addition, and adding money up to $21 using two $10's and a $1), using a code breaker to decode secret messages, and participating in a stem activity!
The only additional supplies you will need in addition to printing this PDF is pennies for the stem challenge.
If you have a breakout kit and would like to incorporate locks there are many ways you could do that! :-)
For grades 1st-2nd you can do this whole class as a Crack the Code or you could use each clue card as a CENTER. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need a modification. Thanks!
