Incorporate math into this year's NCAA Basketball Tournament! This project can be used year after year!! In addition to purchasing this, you will need to print off a bracket after the teams have been chosen in March.
This project will span over roughly three class periods (60 minutes) and students will have 4 different tasks requiring them to collect data, create histograms, line plots, stem and leaf plots, circle graphs, and calculate mean/median/mode/range. This data will also help students predict winners for each game causing them to refine their prediction making skills based on given data. After each piece of data is collected, students will create their own graphs either on paper or on a computer.
Links are listed on my website (address included) and they will stay there. Please let me know if a link is inactive and I will fix it!
At the conclusion of this project, students will want to watch the basketball tournament at home and at school (since these games are broadcast online for free during the day!). A perfect way to incorporate student interest into math! Always one of my students' favorite projects!
