Use these March Math Tune-Ups to reinforce problem solving, number sense, and addition and subtraction skills. Each page features a story problem, an addition/subtraction strategy section, and a number sense review. They have a St. Patrick's Day or Spring theme.
The word problem types focus on compare problems
(how many more, how many fewer), but spiral reviews the following as well:
• Adding 3 Numbers
• Group (one addend unknown)
• Change (change unknown, addition and subtraction)
Common Core requires first grade students to solve a variety of problem types. Practicing various types daily prepares students to visualize the specific problem and develop a strategy to effectively solve it.
Numbers to 120 are featured. Students complete more advanced tasks than in previous units, such as solving number riddles, adding and subtracting groups of 10, comparing multiple representations of a number, etc...
Addition and subtraction strategies covered include:
• Number Bonds
• Adding 3 Numbers
• Composing Numbers (ways to make 13, 12, etc...)
• Using doubles facts and half facts in equations
• Missing Addends & Subtrahends
• True/False Equations

I use these as one of my four daily math rotations. They make great quick assessments and help me plan my small groups! These would be good for homework, morning work, independent work during stations, or even as an activity for whole group instruction or small groups.
