What’s a BragMark?
It’s brag tag in bookmark form! And it’s all the rage in my classroom!
Brag Tags are very popular in classrooms across the country. Kids earn them for all kinds of reasons, and because there’s so many styles, they love to collect them---on a ball-chain necklace or on a silver clip-ring (which is how my students store their Brag Tags and BragMarks.)
For some reason, the majority of my class just wasn’t too keen on doing their silent reading and AR testing. Since Brag Tags are so poplar in my classroom, I decided to create something that would motivate my students to read read read and race to take AR tests. I introduced these BragMarks to my kids and the next thing I know, I’m handing them out left and right. The kids are falling all over each other to get on the iPads to take a test and earn a Bragmark.
I do require my students to earn at least 80% on an AR test to earn a BragMark, which has solved the problem of kids taking tests after rushing through a book that maybe they didn’t comprehend too well.
They WANT to read in their free time and they CAN’T WAIT to take an AR test now.
I’ve made 4 pages of BragMarks, each with 4 different appealing styles that the kids wanna collect.
Talk it up and compare it to collecting baseball cards---gotta get at least one of each style. Promote them as limited-edition….around for only a short time. The kids will be eager to get the next BragMark that they need to add to their collection.
