This slideshow was created for 2nd grade students to learn about Mardi Gras dubloons. There are 12 slides total. I did this with 2nd grade, but it could easily be adapted for any lower grade.
*Art vocabulary words used for the slide show & lesson are in all caps.*
Slide 1: Title
Slide 2: What is MARDI GRAS?
Slide 3: What is a KING CAKE?
Slide 4: What are DUBLOONS?
Slides 5-10: Close up images of different kinds of dubloons.
Slide 11: What are the colors of Mardi Gras?
Slide 12: How will you create your own dubloon? Directions for their dubloons.
We created dubloons the week before Mardi Gras to hang in the hallways.
Students watched the slideshow & then created their own dubloon. The slideshow & the creation of their dubloon took one 45 minute class. I gave each student a large outline of a circle on a piece of white paper. Students could then create their own dubloon in the circle. Many students created dubloons that had a business they were going to own; some students created dubloons like, "Josh's Messy Bedroom"; some had a discount on it like, "$1.00 off your next purchase". I left it up to the students. They colored their dubloons with markers or crayons - their choice. Some students even created a thick edge to make it look 3D like a coin.
