Mardi Gras is a HUGE holiday here where I am in Louisiana. Whether it's celebrated where you are or if you just want to expose your students to this fun tradition, it always makes for lots of fun!
This quick drill card game is perfect for your short articulation or fluency sessions (5-10 minutes) although it can also be used for longer sessions, too.
To use in short sessions, just set a timer and begin drill. After your student says his/her articulation targets or uses fluency strategies to your liking (3 times, 5 times, etc) allow him/her to pick a card. To use in longer sessions, play until no cards remain.
If players pick a card with "Happy Mardi Gras", the player gets to keep it. If it’s one of the wild cards, follow the directions on the card. Take out wild cards as needed to advance the game.
When the timer rings, the person with the most Happy Mardi Gras cards wins!
* 25 Happy Mardi Gras cards and 5 wild cards
* optional list of Mardi Gras themed targets- a variety of phonemes in a variety of contexts.
Laminating is recommended for durability.
Happy Mardi Gras, Y'all!
