March 5, 2019 is Mardi Gras ⚜⚜⚜! Incorporate this festive holiday into your reading or language lessons (or speech/language therapy sessions!) and for non-readers, this makes a great listening or reading comprehension activity! It's also perfect for social studies!
This 10 page download includes 22 short passages discussing various Mardi Gras celebrations with an average of 2 corresponding critical thinking questions per passage.
Questions require students to use skills ranging from simple recall, comparing, and making personal connections to deciphering vocabulary in context, drawing conclusions, giving opinions, and justifying responses with evidence. A whole range of critical thinking skills can be applied!
It also includes:
► a writing prompt so students can respond to read material in writing,
► a VENN diagram to compare and contrast Mardi Gras traditions
► an open ended Dot Art Mardi Gras activity (see it in the preview)
► a Mardi Gras Board game
► Passages can be used alone with individual students, for partner reading, or for group discussion.
► The reading passage cards can be used to play a card game or incorporated for use with the included board game (directions for both included)
► For non readers, an adult should read the cards and the students can respond. This makes for a handy listening comprehension activity (which is a crucial prerequisite to reading comprehension).
⚜ Just print, (laminate if you wish), cut and use!
