I created this assignment in relation to a field trip I take each year to study bioluminescent dinoflagellates off the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. This assignment was made for a high-level sixth grade class, but would still be challenging in high school biology and marine biology classes.
The assignment is an extension of my unit on Microlife: Bacteria, Protists & Fungi. It includes a PowerPoint with links to three YouTube videos (makes up an hour long lesson with note-taking) as well as a written assignment that includes key vocabulary and ideas. Questions on the assignment are taken from the videos and the PowerPoint, but some may need to be researched if students miss any key ideas while taking notes.
This is a fascinating topic that I am sure your students will love!!
