Great for Marine Science, Biology, Ecology and Environmental Science, this debate style project allows students to view a clip or entire "Finding Nemo" movie and develop a viewpoint that either supports or denounces the keeping of marine organisms in captivity. Students choose Next Generation Science Standards to address, while answering provided questions and defining vocabulary. This lesson plan is utilizes a 5E planning structure that is designed to increase teacher effectiveness ratings. This lesson utilizes the website: www.helpsavethereef.com where research can be guided through the use of interactive video and blog features. Additional lessons in marine science that I post will also utilize this website and I will continue to revamp the website for use in teaching Marine Science and Marine Biology. This particular lesson focuses on marine ecology, mainly species identification, species inter-dependency, habitat development and invasive species. Other topics addressed include climate change and ocean acidification.
