Mark Twain, His Life and Times is an informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students. This resource is a good supplement to use as a introduction to or while teaching one of Twain's novels.
Each of the three reading passages can be used alone (but in sequence), they could be assigned as the teacher wishes: in class over a couple of days or more, as homework, as independent projects, etc. The texts are chronological; Part 1 is titled “Young Mark Twain”, Part 2 “Mark Twain and his Travels, and Part 3 “Mark Twain, an American Icon”.
Each text includes a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and language use work and a short creative writing assignment.
There is a complete answer key included for all six student work pages.
