Ultimate Units presents the American authors mini-units – short story centered explorations of author and characteristic fiction content. Each of these mini-units is designed to take approximately 1 week of class time given an hour long class period. They are designed for high school students and include activities that target low level through high level learners. Pace, of course, may be altered to fit your own particular classroom dynamic.
These are 20 year tested units that engage students year after year, entertaining them as well as educating them, with the ultimate goal of producing a more interested, more informed, more curious student. A by-product of this interest is a student who will read better, perform better on standardized tests, and have greater literacy overall.
Each common-core aligned mini-unit includes pre and post tests on reading comprehension and content based vocabulary, an eclectic mix of activities to engage multiple intelligences, questions and quizzes on famous short fiction from the public domain (many with audiobook links) , a unit end assessment, essay options, informational reading questions based on the author and/or the time period of the publication or setting, and various other activities specific to the author in question.
A schedule for completion, sample lesson plan, and keys for all activities are provided to make it just a bit easier to work smart without having to work quite so hard. (25 student pages; 28 teacher pages)
