Investigating a New Product Launch Using the Marketing Mix: In this project students will investigate the launch of a new product, research how the company employed the marketing mix to aid in the launch; then create a presentation highlighting successes, challenges, and lessons learned. Additionally, students will critique the company’s strategies and suggest alternative ideas for future campaigns.

For this project I have my students work with a partner. Students select a product from the list provided to conduct their investigation. You can cut up the paper to allow students to draw from a cup or you can let them pick from the list. I prefer to only have one group per product, but you can decide what works best for you.
Students will use the project instructions to design a Google Slides or Piktochart Infographic on their assigned product. A rubric is included for grading. If time allows, have students present their findings to the class.
Importance of Marketing Writing Prompt: Integrate writing into the marketing curriculum with this no-prep writing prompt. In this activity students will argue for the importance of marketing as part of a business’s strategy to increase revenue. Students should also cite an example from a companies’ marketing campaign. This assignment is meant to be a basic activity for students studying marketing. All files are in Microsoft Word/PowerPoint to allow for easy customization based on course requirements. The writing prompt requires a paragraph to be written, but it could easily be changed to require an essay.

Focus Group Simulation: This product includes: PowerPoint Presentation with class instructions, Marketing Mix cards for grouping (sample can be seen in Thumbnail images), and Teacher Guide (also seen in Preview). In this activity students will simulate a focus group. Students design questions they would like to ask the focus group about a particular product. You may select the product, but store brand soda is an economical choice. Students take turns facilitating a focus group. After each group has had the opportunity to conduct their research, students will meet with their partner to analyze their findings. Also included in the Teacher Guide is a link to a Socrative quiz that can be used to help students reflect on what they have learned in the activity.
This simulation is great for an Introduction to Business and Marketing or Marketing I course. In my experience students enjoy the hands-on learning approach and are very engaged with this activity.
Digital Marketing Guided Research (Web Quest) Questions: In this activity students will go on a web quest using a set of 10 guided research questions to examine the use of digital marketing. Students will explore: social media, YouTube, blogs, online retailers, search engine marketing, mobile app marketing, and email marketing. This worksheet is a great way to have students examine the realities of digital marketing and their impact on marketing in the 21st century.
This product also includes a detailed teacher answer key. Answers may vary, but suggested answers are provided. This activity is perfect for a high school marketing, business, management, or entrepreneurship course. This worksheet promotes research skills, higher order thinking, and citing evidence. This worksheet is in Microsoft Word to allow easy customization for your course.
Digital Marketing Sports Team Extension Case Study: Engage your students with their love of sports. This product is a short case study about the possibility of a new sports team extending to Austin, Texas. Students will brainstorm the sport, team name, mascot, and digital marketing campaign for the team. Students will pair and share their ideas, evaluate their responses, and share their findings with the class. This activity takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
This project is a great addition to any marketing unit. This case study is in Microsoft PowerPoint for easy customization for your classroom or curriculum. I use this activity as a closing formative assessment after teaching digital marketing tools. I have students complete the assignment on a note card and turn it in as they leave the class.
Board Race Marketing Review Game: Appeal to your students' competitive nature with this fun marketing review game. This activity includes 47 marketing unit review questions. Topics covered: marketing mix, functions of marketing, economic utilities, and market research. The questions are in a Microsoft Word Document so you can easily remove questions not covered in your curriculum.
For this game divide the class into two or three teams. One representative from each team comes to the board. Ask each question provided and the first person to write the correct answer on the board wins a point for his team. The students at the board only get one try. If they all miss the question, you take the answer from the first person in the audience who raises his hand. Just be sure to keep this game moving to minimize wasted time from students moving to and from the board.
Add another element to the mix if you have access to a Jenga set you can also have the loser pull a Jenga piece!
