Marking /s/ in s- blends is a simple activity designed to provide a visual cue to those kiddos who tend to delete the /s/ in s- blends during speech production (e.g. “pider” for “spider”). Begin by modeling the /s/ sound while having the child produce it with you. Hold the /s/ sound as you move across the line and connect it to the rest of the word when you arrive at the picture (e.g. ssssssssssnake). Worksheet are available for the following blends: sc, sk, sm, sn, sp, st, and sw.
Remember to have fun as you move across the lines! Some ideas include tracing the line with your finger, crayon, or marker, driving a toy car on the line, or making an animal walk on the line. Feel free to color the pictures during extra practice or just for fun.
