I created this to be a culminating activity for my unit on Technical Text. In class I had students read the Marshmallow Pop text in a small group with me and then we actually made them! It was so much fun and it really connected reading to real life for my students. After reading the directions and making the pops I had students take the quiz. The quiz went with our unit so you might want to change question #1 to texts you have read. I used the texts in the multiple choice because they were texts we had read and discussed in class.
Answer Key: Answers:
4. Student answers may vary, I graded short response according to a scoring rubric. The rubric focuses on the student’s focus (do they stay focused on the topic), evidence (do they give reasons from the text and explanations to support their answer), and organization (sentence structure).
5. If you didn’t chill the marshmallows the chocolate would not stick. I know this because in Step 1 of the directions if stays, “chill the marshmallows so the chocolate will stick.” Response doesn’t have to be exactly like this, but students need to restate and reference step 1 of the directions.
